About a year ago, Origin Brass was founded by 5 students at the DePaul University School of Music in an attempt to fulfill a mission. Our mission was to support new music by emerging composers with high-level performances and recordings.  Our first collaboration was in April 2017 with composer/organist Graeme Shields and the Vital Organ Project. During that event, we featured seven composers with new works for brass quintet, brass quintet + organ, solo brass + organ, and solo organ.

In March 2018, Origin Brass and the Vital Organ Project are teaming up again to raise funds to perform a concert of new music in Kalamazoo, MI. Building on the framework from our previous collaboration in Chicago, we will be premiering Graeme Sheilds' new three-movement work for Brass Quintet + Organ, in addition to featuring some of our friends who are extremely talented composers from all around the midwest and more!

In order to do this, however, we need some help. The money we are raising will go to the following things:

Travel Expenses (Food + Gas): $200
Operating Expenses (Origin): $700
Operating Expenses (Vital Organ Project): $300
Total fundraising goal: $1200

By donating to this campaign, you'll make all of this a reality. Both Origin + The Vital Organ Project believe strongly in supporting performances of music being written right now. By doing so, we are providing young composers and our peers an avenue to workshop their skills and to create new and exciting programs that you won't hear anywhere else. With the recording budget we are raising, we aim to provide these composers high-level recordings of the pieces they've worked so hard on.

The concert will be presented at First Congregational Church in Kalamazoo, Michigan the weekend of March 24 and 25th. Origin will be in residency at the church, performing a church service on Sunday morning for the community. For more information, click the button below!
