About

Julia Tsuchiya-Mayhew is a trumpet player currently pursuing a MM at DePaul University, and holds her undergraduate degree from Northwestern in music performance. Julia was raised in St. Louis, Missouri where she began studying orchestral trumpet with Mike Walk in middle school. During her time at Northwestern, Julia studied with Robert Sullivan and had opportunities to play in brass chamber groups and in top-notch ensembles, which covered various repertoire in orchestra, wind ensemble, and contemporary classical music. Throughout her college career, Julia has attended Philadelphia International Music Festival and Miami Music Festival, where she has learned even more about orchestral trumpet playing. In addition to her focus on orchestral playing, Julia really enjoys teaching and doing outreach concerts at The People's Music School and most recently the Chicago Math and Science Academy, where she first performed with Origin Brass. As Julia pursues her masters degree, she is always open to collaborating and working with new musicians in the Chicago area, while also working with DePaul's outstanding faculty.
