Origin Brass is a Chicago based brass quintet striving to reach audiences across all backgrounds. Looking to create collaborative efforts in various fields, Origin works closely on developing programs highlighting new works for brass quintet. We’ve collaborated with the Vital Organ Project, 5th Wave Collective, and the Gaudete Brass Quintet. In April of 2018, Origin successfully crowd funded a concert in Kalamazoo, MI with the help of Vital Organ Project.

Our focus on collaborations is continued through on going commissioning projects with young composers from around the country. d

Origin is committed to the advancement of repertoire for the brass quintet. With working closely with composers writing for the group, we aim to expand the existing repertoire for brass quintet in order to provide a collection of works that is accessible to chamber ensembles across the country. Our goal is to provide high level performances and recordings for composers in order for them to have substantial representation of their works by the Origin Brass Quintet.

Another mission Origin embodies is Educational Outreach. With a commitment to our local schools in the Chicago Public Schools system, we are developing partnerships with various High School and Middle School directors to provide volunteer services and programs to develop young players over the course of their education.

The group consists of recent and current undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate DePaul University students. Members of the group have strong connections to education, outreach programs, and the communication of contemporary music. We work individually with community groups and CPS to provide our services to those in our community. We have performed alongside the Chicago Symphonic Winds, the Windy City Winds and teach around the city. Although young as an ensemble, Origin is achieving large feats in the areas of commissioning and performance. Origin Brass performs a variety of music with unbridled enthusiasm.
